Recently a friend of mine got a wii. She wants to play it online but she cant because they don’t have there router set up. Why is that well cause they didn’t know how so I’m hoping to fix that with this little tutorial. so here it is.

1) you need to unbox it there should be a Ethernet cord in the box.

2) look at the back of it there should be at least 5 Ports in the back 1 for the cable/DSL modem and 4 for computers.

3) now place the Ethernet going from your cable modem to the router (it is probably connected in the back of your PC right now)

4) Plug the Ethernet cord that came with the router into one of the Ports in back of the router and the other end plug in ware the cable modem we plugged in to on your PC.

5) Ok now turn on your computer and it may make some noise. now open up your internet browser ( Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.) and type in 192.168.2.1 in the address bar.

6) Now you should see a page find ware it says login and just hit submit because there should be no password.

7) Now go to ware it says channel and SSID and just change the name from the default to something elts. Then hit apple.

8) now go to ware it says Security and chose what kind of Encryption type like WEP WPA. If your doing it to so the Wii can use it probably should do WEP. When you select it it should come up with a long line of numbers and letters write it down some ware you will need it when you go to your wii and set it up.

just hit apple and it should restart again and your online. I hope this is helpful to other people other than my friend.

Undoing the Cable.

More and more lately I look over at my cable box and think why are you still here. I never watch TV on my TV anymore. I’m about to walk out of my room with it in hand say here I don’t need it anymore. Most shows I watch are podcast and any TV shows I want to see are on hulu or the adobe media player. Its had to give it up because there is like one show can’t find that I can legally watch on the web and that is Big Bang Theory. Witch kind of shocks me that its not on the web. Well hopefully it will and there is the pirate bay to get the show if I really want to watch it. Its there fault they should have it on the web I would watch one maybe to ad’s if I have to but no its not on the web so tuff shit to CBS then. I'm almost serten now that I will do this though I’m not paying the cable bill so I probably will keep it.

The Forgotten Virtual PC Software

I listen to alto of podcast and a few of them do tech support questions. A lot of times they get people that want to move from windows XP to Vista or PC to Mac but wont because of one or 2 applications that wont work with the new thing that they want. Well that's when the hosts sagest things like VMware and Parallels. These are good Virtual PC software but they are so expensive. I don’t see why they don’t tell them to use virtual box its a grate VM software and it is free. I'm sure there are things that VMware and Parallels can do that Virtual Box cant but I think if your still wanting to use older software and want the new thing too its grate.Revision 3’s system did an episode about VM’s it was grate and that is ware I first herd of Virtual Box. So try it you got nothing to lose its free and its grate for trying out Linux OS’s.

The New Browser War

For awhile now we have been seeing the beginning of a new browser war. What I find funny is that it is with the same two browsers again. Internet explorer and Netscape great grandson Mozilla Firefox. It’s like a horror movie for Microsoft I think. They killed monster once (Netscape) and now in a new form it has come back stronger and better than it once was and now Microsoft has to fight it off again. But it is losing.

For thought’s of you who do not know what I’m talking about the browser war is what it was called when in 1993 Netscape came out with a browser called Netscape communicator and Microsoft soon relies that well maybe they would should get on this internet thing so they came out with internet explorer. By the end of the 90’s they had destroyed Netscape.

Although the original Netscape has been gone for a long time now the sores code floated around the internet and a company named Mozilla witched they then improved and slightly changed to be there first browser Mozilla. Then sometime latter it became Mozilla Firefox.

With Internet explorer 6 so in secure it gave a lot people a wreathen to switch from IE to Firefox. Which is now IE’s down fall and even with their soon to be realest Internet Explorer 8 hopes are not high? IE 8 is supposed to work better with web standers unlike other versions of IE. Although it does the mark of IE has already been made even their own sites do not work right yet with IE 8 because most web servers see IE and render the page how IE likes it to be render.

I think this just show that IE is paying for its sins you could say. I’m not saying there will be a world without IE cause its part of windows and although I don’t use it much there are times when flash or some plug in go’s bad in Firefox and it just won’t work right and I need to get something done and that is ware IE comes in handy cause it has sonority so every web page works with it. Though I’ am glad for Firefox I love some many featchers in it that I couldn’t just name one or two. So who ever winds this time I hope doesn’t become a tyrant like Microsoft did.

Why Is It So Hard

Today I went to Walmart and well I hate Walmart, I’m not sure if I have really ever said that on here but just so you know I hate Walmart. Its not even the whole chine's thing or that they pay there employs shit its because there are so many people there and most of them I wish just wouldn’t open there mouth. But these people are the common windows users witch scare me.

I was checking out and the lady doing it was older but had no clue what she was talking about she was talking to the older lady in front of me about the computer she got recently and went on to say how she got vista and how she doesn't know it but she said she had XP before that and now she has to learn ware things are allover again and she wished that there was classis to learn vista but she only find place for windows 2005(and what the hell is that the only thing I could think of is windows server most likely).

So I under stand she was old computers are a whole new world for her but i really think that computers Windows or Mac are not that hard to get use to. But normal people go into this with the whole thought of ooo computers scary and so they make it allot harder than they should be.They wont try things cause they think they are going to brake it but I really find that not true. I was like that for awhile I will admit when I got my first PC when I was in 3rd grade but then I learned to back up and what the restore disks did and I was never afraid to do anything. Now I still don’t touch anything in the BIO settings but I think that is a give in unless you know what you are doing.

Also these people don’t know how to secure them selves online either and in that case they are a danger to them selves and others. These people don’t update there computer and think as long as I got Nortan anti virus I'm safe and nothing can hurt my computer. That right there is scary to me too and the anti viruses companies don’t really correct that either. Then when you tell them the truth they say “Well why do I need a anti virus then if it doesn't help me” and you have to try to tell them is more a safety net.

Its a mess out there and I really wish there were more people like well Leo Laporte cause I think he dose do a good job of explaining to the normal user these things. A lot better than I can I try as I might but there just so much I can do because of the generation gap its easier for him because well he is older and can relate to them than a 18 year old could to a 50 year old. When I try to explain something to my friends who are around my age I can relate things to them and they can under stand what I 'am talking about. Maybe there will be one day where people understand computers a little bit more then they do now but until then I still have to run to my grandparents just so I can restart there computer and say and its fixed lol.

Facebook Gives

The other day I was talking about the new privacy changes facebook made and today they have changed them back. I love this quote from them.

“Over the past few days, we have received a lot of feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised.”

I think they did the right thing here to go back to the old one. The newer one just gave them too much power over our stuff. Witch is OUR STUFF. Though it makes you think… what are they cooking up at facebook that would make them want control over that and dose this mean they my try to do something like this again. Hopefully they will not I do like facebook a lot more than I ever liked myspace.

Facebook Fail!!!!

I think at this point we know about the change in facebook privacy policy. I we can all agree that its just wrong but incase you have no idea what im talking about, Facebook changed there privacy policy to basically say that any info that you put on your facebook page or any content you put on your facebook page is there's and they can do what ever they want with it. You can read more at mashable.

What I think we are going to see is facebook selling are info to ad agencies and company's so they can make ads that they can make ads that appeal to us. Witch will probably not work. But they could do other things with this too if you want to that into it. They can sell pics that we put on our pages to ad company's so when it shows one of thoughs meet hot girls in your area, it could come up with a pic of a a girl on your friends list (or guy).

I know it is a quick way to make money Facebook but really you don’t own us and you maybe able to use our stuff even if we leave facebook but if we do leave we will find some place elts that will not take our info and the ad company's will no longer want you. So what im really saying is don’t mess with your users.

Bad MySpace

For the longest time I loved myspace and I would move to Facebook. For the lonest time I thought what seperated myspace users from facebook users was myspace was for middle to lower class people wile facebook was all upper class. Well I finnaly see what really seporats myspace users from facebook users. Facebook users just had enof of the slow wait times to get to other peoples pages and had enof of peoplee being dumb and haveing these like never ending pages with huge pichers that take up the hole screen and pages that will never render right.

Wile Myspace users well they will never learn they dont under stand and they will keep doing it till myspace gose out of business. Witch is sad myspace is a good social network they just have so many dumb ass that don’t know how to make a web site cause thats what the custumizeable options are for there is to make your myspace more for a web site.

Facebook can be custemized its just limited as to what they will let you do. Some might think that is a bad thing but it works no matter what facebook page you go to it works. I mean they let you have applections and they were the first to do so. Yes most of the appes there now are kind of well bad but there is so much protenchal to make good appes and I think it might be a plat from that deveplopers will look at as we try to do more and more in the cloud.

Though at this point im toren only because I have friends that have facebook pages and ones that I can only talk to on myspace if I could I would only have my facebook page. I can see a day when good apps come out for facebook or myspace but one of them has to go frist. Though there are new social networks that come out everyday so for all I know theyy could be better than myspace and facebook combind.

Got a Xbox 360

Well I got a lot of money for x-mass and I thought it was time I got a Xbox 360. I really wanted it to be a Windows Media extender. But that hasn’t worked so well since every thing I have is on iTunes so pretty much nothing shows up or works. A few pod cast in H.264 show up but it says it can not read it. Net working the computer to the Xbox was really easy it took no time at all. I liked that it just used the internet on my PC to use internet TV. If you have allot of things that aren't copy weighted then this is perfect but if you use iTunes for everything like I do then its not as good. I hope too soon get some games.

Putting it back together

Last Saturday I had a bit of a security breach. I came home from bowling and there were 10 firefox windows open and a help windows open. The firefox windows were all Live mesh help and firefox has been updated, and the help screen was about windows file and printer sharing.

I had no idea what was going on and I really didn’t know what to do other than Disable my wireless access card and run my Virus scan. Then I cracked open my laptop and went to leo’s chats and well no one was there and then I went to GRC but I really wanted an answer then. So I went to Chris Prillos chat and asked my question and they said to restore to back up and if it still seems weird to wipe it out. In the end that is what I ended up doing.

I had to wipe my computer clean mostly cause I wanted to be sure and I wanted what ever I had to be gone. I just could never trust that computer again. The longest thing about all this was reinstalling all of the updates after Vista SP1 because my router kept Disconnecting and I would have to run to the other end of the house every 5 minutes. Finding all my apps took awhile too and subscribing to all my pod casts took a wile.

At this point I got everything back the way it was. I Changed all my passwords words on all my computers so it seems secure again. After all this happened I thought about what was the last thing I downloaded and I think it was a torent file. Its the last thing I downloaded before I went the bed. There are 2 people I would like to thank and that is Chris Prillo for his community he has and Leo Laporte for saying over and over to back up your data and if not for that this all would have been sooooooo much worst.

Google OS?

I had no idea that google was making a OS. It uses Ubuntu so if you are familiar with that you should be fine. Though the one thing I like about it is that it has a doc like OS X. But that is the mac fan with in me saying that. I think the G OS is quite good for net books witch is what they are being but in. Most of them made by Everex (not my favorite OEM). It installs just like any other linux distro so just burn the live CD and try it out and install. It really has everything you need for your basic user. It has Firefox, Open Office, google docs, Google Cal, Blogger, Youtube, gimp, most of the same things that are in Unbuntu.

Im sure you just read that last sentence and are thinking wait gmail, google docs, youtube and blooger are not apps. You get a cookie because they are not they are online apps and I like the way they prezent them in the OS. They open them in like a crome environment making them seem like local apps running on the hard drive. This is expected because this OS was made with net books in mind.

I have looked at this as good as I know how (Im no linux expert) and I think this is a grate linuxs distro for anyone who is fixing up a computer for someone that just wants to do e-mail and surf the web. It is a small kernal and it only needs a 1.25 ghz processor to run and vary little ram I was only using 512 MB in the VM I was using. You can get at thinkgos and there is also a myspace version with myspace apps on the doc.

Things I have notice

I found out something today and Im not sure how long it has been out for but Sony has a free version of Acid called Acid express and I just downloaded it and I have never really played with Acid pro before so it should be fun when I go to play with it. So you can get that at the Sony site.

The windows live wave 3 is coming soon I have been using the beta for a wile now and I love it I use windows live photo gallery the most to keep track of the photos I take and have on my PC. The problem I have had though is I have 2 computers I use my laptop and my desktop. I use my laptop to do all my photo editing because the screen is wider and it is brighter. I want to have the photos that are on my laptop on my desktop computer but I don’t want to have to drag and drop them in to a network folder. I want to sync them with the Pitcher folder on my two computers. Well from what I have herd in the final version of Live photo gallery it will sync your pics between all the computers you use all you have to do is log in with your Live ID and it will start syncing them. Also windows live sync will be part of the Wave 3. The only thing that will not be ready for Wave 3 will be the new movie maker.

Another thing I have notice is yester day when I woke up I notice my Desktop had been restarted and when I logged on to windows it said that a new updated had been installed but when I turned on my laptop and looked for updates it didn’t have any and I know they both were updated last patch Tuesday. What I have heard about windows 7

I do not have a copy of windows 7 nor do I think I will until it comes out but I have herd and seen many cool things about windows 7 that make me want it. The big thing that makes me want it now is that it is vary light weight witch is something different since normally when a new version of an OS comes out it is bigger than the previous one. The other thing is kind of n Apple thing but from the screen shots of it, well its pretty darn its dame sexy is what it is. Paul Thurrott’s supper site for windows has a lot of screen shots of it there so check them out.

Windows 7 is going to be an improvement UI wise from what it looks like more than anything elts. Not to say there is not any changes in the back round going on but I think the over all focuses for the windows 7 team is UI. The only thing I ask is why windows 7? its the 12 version of windows and like the 6 version of the kernel. Windows 7 will ship as kernel version 6.1. The windows 7 blog try's to answer this but I don't seem to get Why 7?

I’m A PC???

Well Microsoft is all over the with there ad’s now. The most meberbal I think were the Synfell Gates ad’s witch since they have pulled the plug on now. A vary sad thing I think since I liked thought's ad’s. They also have the mojave ad’s they got going witch are ok. The newer of the ones that I think are a hit in the right discretion is the I’m a PC ad’s they have started showing.

When I started seeing this I was happy. I thought this was the right step back at the PC VS MAC ad’s apple has been showing the last few years. With that first line “Im a PC and I have made into a stereotype type.” I was thought to my self right on. I think out of all the ad’s they have been showing this campaign is a winner. Why you might say well because they just deconstruct almost everything Apple has been saying about windows.

So I have this to say to Microsoft please make more of this ad you will win back your loss users with these ad’s or at least get them to put Vista on there Mac’s.

What I think about wave 3

Well for the last few days I have been playing with the wave 3 beta for the windows live suite and I like it so far. I like the new Photo gallery and live writer. I really haven’t played with the new movie maker but I will soon. My favorite thing though is the new live mail.

I have been looking for awhile for something that I could make changes to my windows live calendar for awhile. It also lets me make changes offline then will sync with it when I get online. There is really not much to say since this is only beta so I cant ready criditsise it to much.

So the bottom line is download the beta of the live suite it makes things allot easier. Just if something goes wrong remember it is just a beta.

A Possible iphone hack

What is in this blog entry is comply just a theory that I cooked up in my head when I found out that there was a kill switch that apple had made for the Iphone to kill any app on a phone remotely. So no of this is true as far as I know.

So now this is what I was thinking, last week I believe it was that apple admitted that there is a kill switch deep inside the iphones OS that allows them to kill any app remotely on the iphone. Now what I was thinking is what if someone were to hack apple and get a holed of this kill switch wouldn’t it be possible for the hacker to start messing with so enterprise level stuff like they showed in Steve’s key note back at WWMC I believe it’s called, that they were showing businesses using it well what if one of the apps is mission critical for them and they wake up and its gone from the phone.

I was also thinking could this kill switch kill other apps than the third party apps like the Ipod part that’s just really an app on there so you can get your music that is on the hardware could the hacker also take that off to making so you can’t lessen to your music of podcast or whatever you do with the ipod part.

Now I’m sure I’m just being paranoid and most of this couldn’t happen but the Iphone and the Ipod touch are both running an OS which means some ware deep inside its code is some kind of exploit just waiting to be found and exploited.

Podcasting

Podcast or Netcast whatever you want to call them they have started to make a change I think for the better or at least for the people that miss Tech TV. I was one of the thousands that were sadden when G4 took over and killed all the good shows on there. I think the only show that aired on Tech TV that is still there is Wired for Sex (Surprise Surprise).

Thank god Leo Laporte started twit and also thank god for Revion 3. I don’t know what I would do without thoughts pod casting networks I would drive myself crazy and I would not know most of the stuff that I know now. I watch more podcast more than I do TV now I find pod cast are a lot more convenient then TV cause I just turn on Itunes and its downloaded to my computer and I can watch them whenever I want. I myself normally watch my podcast when I’m eating breakfast normally things like the chris Pirillo show and Techzilla.

Though I see a down side to it I find is that pod cast are just like blogs but more annoying in the wrong hands. Cause of the fact that pod cast are so easy to make that means that any dumb ass can say what they want and normally do have their facts striate. That’s really the down side I think to podcast but as long you stick with figures or networks that you know and trust like CNET or soon to be called NBCNET you will fine and won’t really hear from them or other networks that you trust from TV.

Go to your Itunes or whatever is your favorite RSS reader and subscribe to shows that seem to interest you. At this point there is millions of them so I’m sure you will be able to find something and you will never have to surf around your TV to find something to watch again.

Computers For The Old

A week ago I believe I talked about how my grandfather got a computer. Well it has been about a week later and he loves it. My grandma has been telling me that he has been getting up at 8 A.M to get on the computer. At this point my grandpa know ‘s more about the computer than my mom dose who uses computers every night at her job. I just found that funny.

My point is that most older people don’t think that they can use a computer. When you say computer they think of the old like punch card mashies. You just have to show them how easy they are to use. I just think that it is better for a older person to have a computer just cause it makes things a lot easier for older people. For example things like paying bills ordering medicine and in some cases even get groceries.

I really think that if you have someone in your family that is older and they don’t think they could ever use a computer you should find some way to let them use one and show them to that it is easy. So computers can be used by all you just got to know how to back up so if you mess up you can go back.

What Will happen When 7 Is Here

Every now in then late at night I start thinking about random things like what will happen to vista when windows 7 comes out. I heard some ware that windows 7 is going to be more business orated. That made me think that maybe windows Vista will still have life after 7.

Let me explained, I think when windows 7 comes out that most of the people that are going to be upgrading to windows 7 will be enterprise. Wile the rest of use (the consumers) will be happy with vista and wont see any reathen to upgrade to windows 7.

What I'm saying is windows 7 will be the OS for enterprise and vista will be the OS for the rest of us. That's how I think it will be. But just like any thing elts in tech you never know.

A Lay Out For Facebook

Facebook this week came out with there new layout. Witch really isn't that grate or different from what I can see. The only different that I can see is that it looks longer that's all. There really isn't that much to say about it. I really don't like Facebook I use it I just like myspace over Facebook. That's about all I have to say about the new Facebook look. I will just end by saying that the myspace layout looked a lot better.

A New Computer

Today I went with my grandparents to get there first computer and boy was that fun. We went to circuit city to get it it was a Compaq pasarieo laptop. Getting it wasn't that bad other than I miss read the thing I found on there site. I thought it was $499.99 but that was with a rebate. It turned out to be around $600.00 so there was a slight error there with that.

Like I said before they got a Compaq its running a Intel Pentium duel cor prosseser with 2 GB of RAM. It works pretty good for a laptop or maybe that's cause I'm use to this one witch I can never say is the best laptop ever. But it dose get my work done and school work so its not that bad.

Trying to teach them things was hard though cause what they want to do is things on the Internet. I just don't want to be telling them things they wont ever remember or use. So I showed them how to do a few things in Word and how to turn it on and off that's about it. It was really even harder to cause I had maybe 3 house of sleep.

Now as they say they are now part of the 21st century. They just need to get on the Internet witch will be soon and I can help a lot more.

Wipe out week

This week is wipe week for me. This is the week ware I start backing up and getting ready to wipe my computers. Yes it takes me a week to do it cause I know If I try to do it all in one day I will not remember to back up something’s. I figger this is a good time of year to do this kind of thing since its almost time to start school in like another month. It doesn’t make senc to wipe in the middle of the school year. So I do it before school starts and give myself a good month to get the bugs worked out of my systems and get things back in order.

I find this is a good thing to do cause it helps keep your computer running nice and smooth and gets rid of all the little software that you install that you may use once and never take off. I’ve been doing this with my old windows 98 computer since I was like in 5^th grade and its still running to this day.

I bought DVD’s today to do the back-up then got home and saw they were not DVD’s they were CD’s so I have to get up tomorrow and go back to walmart and get DVD’s and its going to take for ever cause I’m going to have take the bus so we will see how that gose hell I’ll even record it. So if you can and have the time wipe out your pc along with me Aug 1^st.

Windows Vista SE

I’ve been thinking for awhile now about windows 7 and what it might be like. I really been thinking that it would be like windows 98 SE. Why you might ask. Well it really hasn’t been that long since Vista came out. So I figured that windows 7 is going to fix all the problems with Vista and add things to it to make it the OS that it should have been out of the box. When I was thinking of doing this blog entry I thought I would e-mail Paul Thurrott from the supper site for windows. Surprising to me he responded to my e-mail.

Hey Paul I just wanted to ask you you think on something. I've been thinking about windows vista and windows 7. MY question to you is do you think that windows 7 is going to be more like windows 98 SE in scenes that its not going to change anything that its just going to be a really big update that’s going to cost a lot of money to just fix some of the problems with windows vista now and add some new things to it. I mean it just doesn't seem like something all that existed to get when it comes out like I was when windows vista came out.

I think it's going to be like Windows Vista in reverse. (Bear with that one for a sec.)
In other words ... Windows Vista completely changed the underlying Windows platform but provided a UI and experience that was much like its predecessor. To the user, Vista isn't a huge upgrade, but the reality is that the underlying platform has completely changed.
Windows 7 will utilize this new Vista-based platform but will likely be a dramatically different OS from a user experience standpoint, hopefully with at least an improved if not completely new shell. There will be a ton of new applications and functionality.
I guess Windows 7 could never have happened without Windows Vista, but Windows Vista will never get the respect it deserves for getting the hard part done and taking the ensuing lumps.

Iphone 2.0 hacked maybe not so good???

Well I know that at this point I know this old new that the iphone 2.0 has been hacked. Is it just me or dose it just not make sence to hack the 2.0 software it dose everything you want it to do in the first place why do people need to hack to install apps I mean this just opens the door I think to problems. I think the first time it was hacked with the 1.0 software it was a good thing but now that the iphone and ipod touch can install apps now I think it will be time for the hackers to start doing mulish us things to it and I think it will become the windows of phones. People will have to worry about viruses on your phone. Though it wouldn’t be a new things there already viruses for cell phones out there just hasn’t been a huge out brake yet.

I just think that the iphone is just a setup for a big out brake of a viruses. The army is even using it what other reathen would there be for other country that hate us to come up with a hack or a viruses that would fuck with though. I think it’s something that people should keep in mind. So don’t freak out just be cautious and always be alert cause it could happen.

Back-Up People

Late this morning I posted a video with my good friend thevixy having problems trying to get into OS X on her mac book. But she could get into Windows XP on her mac book. There are only 2 things I can think of one that a system file in OS X got corrupted and all she has to do is reinstall OS X or a sector on the OS X partion is broke witch she could use spin rite to fix if she has an extra $90 laying around.

This though is why I always like to back up things. once a month I always back up everything I can on to a DVD. Every week I back up important files to windows live sky drive. Why you may ask, well cause its 5 GB for free so that's enof for me to back up all my blog entry's to it and other small files that I need or want and they are always there when I want them. Though I find it kind of funny to that the other day that I was watching System and they were showing how to turn a old computer into a free NAS (Network Attached Storage) witch is a good way to back up your data because it is a on site back so then it only takes as long as it takes to transfer files over your network.

So please people for your own sake and the safety of your data back it up. If its picks got windows live photo gallery and back them up to flickr. just back up then when your computer just stops working one day it wont matter as much cause you will have your data some place safe and ware you can get to it.

Today I woke up and looked at the RRS feed reader in my windows live mail app and there was a thing from Leo's blog about a AIR app that some one made and I have to say this is the best use of adobe air since TWIRL. Its really simple you install it and there is Leo's video feed there is also a tab that has a schedule that shows when he dose his shows. Well I’m sure everyone knows now that Bill gates last day at Microsoft was Friday. Some people are saying this is a bad thing but I think that this is really good thing. I think this just means that we will so more things that we would have never had seen with bill there.

Though he is retired he will still be there. He is still part of the board of directors I believe so its not like he completely gone, he will still have a say in things with the company. He just wont have the say that he once had in making the software. He was head software Developer or something like that I believe was his title there.

Well I think this is a start of a new beginning for Microsoft. They been kind of taking a little bit of a slump in the last few years but I think this is there chance to change all that around. They have new and initiative things coming out like Live Mesh witch I think will change the way people think about and interact with computers. So cheers to Microsoft to a new beginning.

Back when windows 98 was king there was really two windows. Windows 98 and windows NT. 98 was the consumer version of windows and windows NT was the enterprise version. But when windows XP came out they combined the two cereals.

The point I’m trying to get at is why they would do that. They should go back to only having two cereals, a consumer version and a enterprise version. The consumer version could have things like the windows live sweet and Microsoft works. Then the enterprise version of windows could have stuff like Office and all the things enterprise users need to get there work done.

I got a lot of this from listening to windows weekly and when Paul was talking about I was just sitting here thinking “I want that” it was like as if I woke up from one of those dreams that are so good you think its real until you wake up and look around and think DANM it was just a dream. I just really think that marketing is getting in the way of what consumers want.

Windows XP

Well Friday was Bill gates last day at Microsoft. He retired the 3^rd richest person in the world. Though he will still be at Microsoft after t Friday but he won’t have the say like he once did. But Monday is the last day you will see Windows XP on store shelves. But there road map for windows XP has changed for the better and you can read about it at the supper site for windows.

Well what I really want to say in this post is good bye windows XP. I will miss your weird colored task bar and start menu. I will miss how you anoid me with highlighting programs I just installed and most of all I will miss how when I plugged an old peace of hardware in you I never had to worried if it was going to work. But really I’m not going to miss XP all that much when I go to school and I have to use XP I miss Vista because my teacher tells me to find Photoshop and I cant find but I muddier to my self well if the school would just upgrade to danm Vista I could just type in “Photoshop” and what would pop up in the start menu oh my god Photoshop.

So for the last time good by windows XP I won’t really miss you that much. I just want to say I’m not saying that Vista is perfect by and stretch of the imagination but its good enof for me, for what I use it for at least.

My Worries About Cloud Computing

Every ware I look lately I keep hearing about cloud computing. The more I think of it, it kind of worries me. If you don’t know what I’m talking about cloud computing is the assentive to try and make the browser your most important appellation and your only application on your computer.

Now you’re probely asking why would anyone want to do that? Well there are a few reathens why people would like to have that. The rather is so that any ware you go you can always have your apps and files every ware you go.

But you see having everything on the internet kind of scares me. I just see a security disaster happening now if this truly happens. I mean with this whole cloud computing thing we are talking about entire operating systems. Just think Windows on the internet its unsecure now how many times do you think windows will be down then. Things going down if all your files and for business appellations on the internet there will be more incentive to bring down web servers and then what… nothing that’s what businesses wont be able to function losing millions if not billions from this.

Well I do think cloud computing is a really good idea. Like I have just said I have some worries about it. I it will be along time before this becomes a reality but I hope along the way developers think about some of these things. I really hope this happens I just think right now I feel safer having things on my local hard drive.

Ustream a mess

I to say something’s are just falling a part lately I’ve notice. Is it really that hard these days to up date things that are critical to a business.

Number one Ustream.tv what is going on with it lately. It just seems to be falling apart. So it seems. I was at Iellie’s ustream room when she was trying to do her give and you can hear more about how that went at her web site. But what was happening was ustream was crashing Fire fox and safari. I just couldn’t use ustream on fire fox 3 RC2 and others had the same problem using fire fox 2. I finally had to switch to IE 7 wile I like IE 7 over past Versions of IE I still don’t like switching out of no ware. Well it turns out that what the problem is and what windows ended up telling was it was a problem with flash. From what I’ve been hearing is that Ustream.tv just hasn’t updated there flash so when you try to watch a show on ustream and your using the newer flash and ustream is encoding in the last version its causing these browsers to crash. All I have to say is ustream update flash.

I loved ustream when I used them and the problem I really had with them was that it no one was there like they are on stickam. I’m not saying though that stickam is perfect but it works for me and I just really hope that one day the bugs will be fixed and it will be more popular so I can return.

Sick Twitter

For the last few days twitter has been 90% down. From what it has been saying it has something to do with a database going down. Though this isn’t the frist time that this has happen it been happening a lot lattly and I think there are a lot people that are fed up. I see a lot of people are going to other things like Jiko and pownce. I said before that it is 90% down cause you can still twitter and see tweets you just cant see older tweets from the people you are fowling. Also you cant twitter for a IM client. I know I haven’t twitter by Iming sins they stopped supporting AIM. Witch got me quite mad from there last upgrade.

Though it seems like sins there last big upgrade that they did twitter has just gone down hill from there. Though I also think that it has a lot to do with that there are a lot more people using twitter now. Twitter is just so atictiv that everyone is always on it and using it twitter just cant go down (I know that is just not posibal) but twitter is just getting so popular that if twitter tires to get some down time people are going to complane. Just like myspace it dosent matter when myspace gose down there is going to always be about 30,000 people complanng.

So the problem I think is that there is more tweets than twitter can handle. In the end if twitter dose not shape up soon people are going to be leaving. Twitter will always be our little birty with a broken wing.

Lately you have probably seen that I have been life casting a bit more. I bet you have also seen I have been using stickam rather than Ustream. This is because well I think stickam is better for life casting rather than ustream. There are some reathans for it too.

Now before I get hate mail for ustearm fans I’m not saying ustream is a bad place to do streams. I’m just saying I think stickam is better for things like life casting. One wreathen and this is the big one to, is that there are more people using stickam then there are using ustream. I the 24 hours on ustream I got maybe one or 2 people watching me, while on stickam I get one or two watching an hour and the people that do watch at least talk. I also like that if you have the right cam the quality is better on stickam and stickam goes down a lot less than ustream dose.

So in the end Stickam is my new life casing home. An End To Myspace

Well lately I really haven’t been using myspace that much lately. To me I really don’t like it that much anymore. Well really I never liked myspace I got suckered in to getting one by some one at school. It is nice for keeping in touch with a few friends at school that I don’t normally talk to. I cant say myspace really was all that bad I have met vary intoresting people on mysapce and I love them and I still do talk to them. But deleting my old myspace is the best thing I have ever done I feel. I still got one and I have the friends that I really talk to and stuff.

Its not that im done with social networking and stuff. I just done with myspace and it just is there for me so I can talk to people that I don’t have there myspace page. I have been using things like stickam and Twitter more than myspace. I’m just done with my space there is nothing new and nothing there that would make me want to stay. I’m not saying myspace is bad its just that I don’t want to bother with myspace no more and if I could cut it out of my life completely I would.

But in the end myspace is ok there is nothing new and I think I’m going to do more life casting with stickam but that’s a blog entry for another day. I will keep my new one and im going to add the people that I’m close to and follow closely. Sp to tom and all the myspace stafe good bye and thanks for all the good times.

Firefox 3 dose anyone care?

Well if you have looked at my twitters to day you have notice that I have been play with Firefox today. I wanted to make my own skin and just play with it but I lack the coding skills and the art skills to do it. I’m still going to try though. It got me thinking Firefox 3 is coming out soon and dose anyone cares I mean threes nothing really new about it. There is nothing that isn’t in IE7 that will be in Firefox 3 except skins and add on’s that’s all really. I’m going to use it because I’ve used it for so long that I have a hard time using IE and I like the master password thing on Firefox. It’s hard for me to go to a friend and try to get them to switch to Firefox if I had to now. I though Firefox 3 isn’t out yet so there is still hope I think. I think the guys at Mozilla have so good ideas left some ware to make Firefox 3 stand out form the rest.

Windows SP1

Windows Vista SP1 is out as you all know. I got it and I installed it on all the computers in the house with Vista. My desktop computer benefited from it because I had only had it for a day and I hadn’t gotten to do that many updates for windows. It saved me from waiting for hours doing tones of restarts. On my laptop I really didn’t see a different before and after. Though that is probably because I had the built version of it so I basically had it on there. On my desktop it took only an hour to install it. My laptop it took almost 3 hours to install. I really did not think it would take that long to do it on there. I knew it would take a little longer for my laptop only because of the fact it doesn’t have a fast presser. But over all I’m happy. It helped me more than it knows.

I took the update and I burned it to a DVD with along with some Office updates. I did this because if you have to restart windows it makes it easier to get your computer up to date before you even get on the internet. On my disk I only have SP1 and the Office 2007 compatibility Pack. I make one of these disks after every big windows service pack. I think SP1 is good for anyone running Vista not that Microsoft really gives you choose with updates.

What If Apple....

Last night I was on the phone last night with a friend I told her how I had a project due Monday about imac’s. My friend asked me if I thought that one day that apple would ever be the norm and over come windows. My reasons was that I think that unless Apple stats licensing what they need to license to OEM’s Mac will never have the over all market share that windows dose. There was one case not to long a go that an OEM wanted to make Imac’s and Apple said no. I really think that if Apple lets other OEM’s make Imac’s that OS X could have the over all market share that windows has had for so long or at lest Apple could give a real scare that Microsoft needs to have.

Firefox going the way of Netscape

Some time this year Firefox 3 is coming out and the more and more I hear about it I can’t help but to think what is going on at Mozilla. I was reading Pual Thurott’s and he doesn’t seem to like it because Mozilla isn’t doing anything new. Mozilla is what basically made IE7 if not for Mozilla we would not have IE7. But now there is no wreathen to get Firefox you already have it and its IE7. Witch is fine to use. For me at this point the only wreathen I still use Firefox is the mast password and varsines seat belt plug in for Firefox if not for those to things I would be taking Firefox off my computer. In the end there will probably only be IE again. Why you might be asking because if Mozilla doesn’t do anything new with Firefox then no one is going to talk about and tell others about it and with out that no one will know about it. Its not IE or even Safire ware it just comes with the OS. So in the end it will probably die and I think other things that Mozilla dose will too sadly. The other things they do are grate and so is Firefox but with out it why should people go to there site and find the other things they do. It is kind of said that the browser that fought for internet standers and won will probably never see the light of day soon. Unless that is they do something in there new bate of Firefox 3 witch came out today and I will be looking at that soon.

No More DRM?

Last night I was on Itunes buying music and I saw +.99. I wanted to know plus what? So I clicked on it and it came up with a FAQ about Itunes Plus. From what it was saying Itunes plus is going to be a new Itunes store with and it will off the Fowlling.

No DRM on songs
highest-quality 256 kbps AAC encoding
No more burn limits

The songs will also be same price as songs with DRM. This makes me think my be the end of DRM is here its just going to slip away and be no more. I can only assume that buy next year at the latest that all the content on itunes will have no DRM. So I guess what I have to say about it is R.I.P DRM [TP1] .

Well I watched the first 2 episodes of Download last night and they were grate. They talked about the browser wars (Netscape and Microsoft). I just love how they showed Microsoft as like a mafia like company. From what they kept saying it that’s how they were back in the early 90’s. But I don’t want to give away nothing so your going to have to watch it your selves so got to Downloads web site and find out what time this week it is on in your area.

Making A Home Sever F or The Rest Of Us

I use to use my old windows 98 computer for a server until it died. It was a good idea I think and something I had wanted to do. It wasn’t that hard I just had wish I had a copy of windows XP laying a round to network my computers all to gather and it would have helped if the router that we are using in this house was connected to that computer. As long as you have all that and an older computer that is just sitting around gathering dust you can have a little sever of your own. Just be aware you won’t be abele to make users on the network or even do roaming profiles.

I would reinstall windows on the computer you are going to use for this and I would also say do this with wired network. This will work on a wireless network but it will be slower. One more thing I for got to say make sure this computer is has at least 80 GB of hard drive space. Once you have reinstalled windows make a good 20 GB partition. Once you have that made make your work group and name it something other than workgroup. Once windows is done confining windows it should ask you to either make a CD or finish. It is easier to tell it to have it make a setup file on a flash drive. Once you have the setup file with your network config on it just take to all the computers that you want networked to the older one. When you have done that you can get back on your “server” and tell it to share the 20 GB partition you made. Then you just have to go to the computers you have networked to it and tell them to map it out as a network drive just make it the same drive volume on all the computers. Then you can just save files to that drive have Microsoft Money to save your money file there then you have another back for your money things or even save your documents to it. Just one thing though never work off this server or really any server cause if something happen to your network work you cant get to your computer.

Well I hope this helps and saves money if you have wanted a home sever but you really don’t think you need it. This was a big help for me when I did this. Backing Up

Lately I have been backing up a lot cause of what happen to my old computers. I use to back them up to a CD every 2 weeks and I hade records of back up CD’s with my stuff on it that I thought were important. But I started to run out of room for all my back ups so I stopped doing it I thought nothing will happen and one day it did do to my dumbness. Everything on that computer I lost pics, vids, home work, notes, etc. So I had to get back what I could lucky for me most of my pic’s were on my space so all I had to do was download them back.

So a few months have past now and well I really haven’t backed up much. Except for lately I have. The other day at school I found the use fullness of windows sky drive. I was in typing class and I was done with my work so I thought I would work on an e-mail for a friend I wanted to send. I worked on it for about 10 min’s and the bell was going to ring soon I knew so I put my flash drive in and what happen next puzzled me windows would not install the flash drive and I needed it to. Then I knew that I could upload stuff to the inter net so I went to the live sky drive site and signed in. I took the doc file and uploaded it to my sky drive documents folder. When I got home from school that day I got on my laptop right a way and went to my sky drive page and down loaded the file and finished it.

I started to think my be this would be a good way to back up my school flash drive cause now and then I for get it and im screwed normaly. So I took just took all my school work and just uploaded it to my sky drive and now if I ever for get my school flash drive it is there and it was easy. I just dragged and dropped it in the folder (a add on for IE & is needed to do that).I also added some pics that are important to me cause with the hole yahoo thing who knows what is going to happen to yahoo.

In the end I now feel a bit safer about my data and that im not going to lose it. The only bad thing I can say about putting it one the sky drive is that I can only restore as fast as my connection will let me. At least I know my school work my past blog past and important pics are safe and secure.

True encrypt

Yesterday I did a full encryption of my system partion. I did it cause one I wanted to play with truecrypt and the other is I just don’t like knowing that my laptop is just laying there at home wile I’m at school and some one could be putting software on my laptop with out me knowing. So I encrypted the drive so I can be at ease. I went to the truecrypt web site and downloaded the latest version of it. My be it is just me but I like knowing nothing is getting in or out of my computer (for the most part) with out me knowing.

Sky Drive Is Live

This week windows live sky drive came out of beta and is now live. They have added 5GB of space so for me that good for backing up my blog and stuff. They also add an extension for Internet Explorer 7 that allows you to just drag and drop stuff into your drive. It is also much faster uploading files to it than it was in beta. It is a really grate for back up and its 5GB free.

As grate as it is I think there is one thing they could do to make it better. I would like it if they were to allow you to download a program or something to be able to sync a folder on your computer to your sky drive. They should make it so it syncs to the sky drive when you can. Like for example have it set to sync my blog folder every Saturday at 4 PM then at 4 PM it dose it or every day or weekly how ever much you need it.

That for me would make sky drive so much better. Though I guess I can’t complain its 5GB for free I just got to stop being lazy and remember to back it up once a week. Well I hope to tell what’s on my mind about tech again tomorrow bye.

Well as you all probably know I broke my HP computer just before X-mass. I’m getting a new computer built from some off the newer things I put in my old computer just before it went and some newer things. I was told to make a list of things I have and things I want in that new computer so I’ll start with the things I want.

That’s all I really want on my computer. Now the things I have aren’t any longer.

The other night I was listening to Windows Weekly and Paul Thurrott started talking about Vista one year latter and SP1 for Vista. He stated talking about the sales numbers for Vista in its first year and Windows XP in its first year and basically they found that in Vista’s first year sold more copies than XP did in its first year. Though I remember when XP came out and I wanted to upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows XP all I ever herd was XP sucks don’t upgrade basically the same things I hear about Vista and just like Vista with everyone buying XP in grate amounts as they are now when XP came out everyone was buying windows 2000 and got mad when Microsoft stopped making 2000. I have come to one answer and that is no matter what Microsoft dose this cycle will always happen. Sorry Microsoft.

The Vista Talk

Windows Vista the OS failure sins ME. Though I want to say it is really a good OS but if I do I'll probably be hung. Really Vista inst a bad OS its just not really new and broke some things in networking that worked in XP. I remember something that Leo Laport said on ether Call For Help of The Screen Savers. It was “I hope that Long Horn (windows Vistas code name at the time) dosen't turn out to be another Windows ME”. Well I think in some was Vista has ME was nice if you were getting a new computer and it was already on it for the most part it was windows 98. But there was really no raethen to upgrade to ME if you had windows 98. Well now if you have XP you really don't need to go to vista and if your getting a new computer for NON-BUISNES USE go with vista. Now your probably wondering why I said for NON-BUISNES USE and thats cause in a business place Vista fail big time. In a business place a network is inportin and Vista inst really good with networking in XP networking was easy in Vista something inst going to work. Other than that Vista is fine. Its probably the most secure version of Windows ever. So please stop putting Vista down.

Mac VS PC

Well yes another Mac vs PC thing I know its point less and there just OS's but there are differences I use PC's for the most part but you know ever sins I was in like 3^rd grade I've always have wanted a Mac because in school thats what we use here are Macs. But I got a PC with windows 98 and I lived. Windows I will say I have seen dose a lot better with networking and file sharing than Mac's do from what I've seen that is. Though Mac's I think are a lot better for people beginning with computers cause the OS X inter face looks just so much more simpler than Windows XP or Vista.

Updates are done I think Better on the Mac than in Windows cause Mac makes everything for there OS so they just have one updater and it keeps everything on OS X updated. Unlike Windows were you have Windows Update and a million other software updates going on at once and you never really know what they are updating cause it probably software you don't even use any more.

But really in the end it docent really matter any more cause hell if you have a Mac you can have both of both worlds. I've also seen ways to get OS X running on PC's as well. I think in the end it just boils down to what do you want to get out of your computing expectorants. If you want to do stuff like web deign and graphics then get a mac there so much stuff for that for the mac. If you want to run a Business and use business software like Microsoft Office then get a PC.

Windows Vista SP 1 RP 1

Well I last night I did a windows update and there it was windows vista service pack 1 RC 1(cause I did the registry hack). I got so happy and downloaded it. It took a wile for it to download and even longer to install it might have been just my laptop. I hope to tell you more about it soon.

Well its been about 4 days sins I got Firefox 3 beta 1. I have to say its an improvement from Firefox 2. Firefox 2 really didn't have anything new that IE 7 didn't do. The one thing I liked the most was the places folder in the Firefox 3 its kinda like a easer to navigate history. I used that the most. Its more secure If you go to a page that has a invalid certificate it will say that its not vialed one. I really cant say to much right now cause its not done yet but when it is I'll have review. Windows Live Part 2

Well this is part 2 of my look at some of the windows live servisis. I took a look at the windows live calender beta. I like think it looks better then the Google calender. To me the looks are inportin to me I just think if I'm going to use something I should like what I'm looking at. Well more about the calender and thats were I guess it fails I just didn't see anything new. It docent do anything different that the Google calender cant do.

The next thing I looked at was the windows live sky drive witch is like Microsoft's version of Apple's .mac accounts but for free Microsoft gives you 1GB of storeg. If you pay for it they will give you more at this time I don't know how much more you get. I think even the GB is good for backing up home work and some of the most inportin pitchers you have or documents. Just remember that when you restore that back up it will only be as fast as you Internet connection.

Over all I think windows live is a grate free online sweet that a student in college or even in high school for planing projects and things. Next week hope fully there will be a release beta for fire fox 3 and I can get my hands on that. Will until next weekend.

Windows Live Part 1

Windows live in the last year it has changed the way we do things soon I'm sure it will change how we do things at home and in the office. I looked Windows live hotmail live calendar and there sky drive. First if you look at there new home page that that has links to all there services on it. (look blow.)

Now windows live hotmail hot mail has changed sins the days of MSN hot mail. The reathan why I say this is because the last time I looked at Hotmail was back then I got mad at it would take forever to load up and all I wanted was my e-mail so I started using outlook express to read my e-mail then windows live mail. I like the new windows live hotmail. It looks like outlook you could never need outlook again you got your calendar and news and your e-mail. Open up outlook right now at look at it but it side by side and tell me its not almost the same. I'm sure office 2009 will have a reathan to use outlook. All you contacts from Windows Live Messenger are there as well. I really think that with time Windows live hot mail will get even better.

I was lessening to one of my favorite pod cast TWIT (This Week In Tech) and they were saying that the government is making it more expensive for local ISP’s to provide Internet for there customers by razing there cost so they have to raze there customers prices on high speed Internet For the bigger ISP’s like AOL Road Runner and Commcast there lowering there prices so basically they no longer have to worry about local ISP’s any more cause they will be out of business Yet the bigger ISP’s like Road Runner and Commcast will most likely raze their prices even though they don’t have too. Its really another way that businesses that are not monopoly’s act like monopolies. In the cents that were you going to go in most places there is only one place to go for high speed Internet here its time warner other places its Commcast so we don’t have a choice. So people do have a choice but it’s really no different so its still like they don’t have a choice. So in the end there is no choice unless you want to go to dial-up.

Well I've been looking at safari for widows XP and I don't really like it its been freezing up a lot almost anytime I go to my space and send a message it freezes and it makes me made. One good thing is well.... it starts up fast. Other than that I wouldn't get it use Firefox whether your on windows or mac just get Firefox safari is just a IE clone for the mac.

Today I woke up and got on my computer. I started up Itunes and started lisining to Security now it was there listeners feed back episode. There was one question that I found somewhat disturbing about firefox my beloved firefox. From what they sad on there is a fetcher in firefox that lets you turn off the mask when you put in your password for a website. The most insecure thing about this what if you have firefox to save your username’s and passwords. Let say that some one breaks in to your house or gains remote access to your computer now they go to your myspace page with firefox witch you told it to remember your username and password so now when they get to the myspace home page they go in and turn off the masking and now your password is wide open and they can see it. They could go to other pages and see what kind of method you are using to come up with your passwords.

The sacry thing is my school uses firefox to do there grades and stuff. Now lets just say a kid in my school gets on one of the teachers logins by just the teacher leaving the room for a few minutes and now all that kid has to do is turn off the masking of the password and go to teachers grade book witch in my school it is online and now the password is in clear view. Now before you go run back to IE there is something you can do to stop this from happening you can go in to your options and make a master password for firefox making it so no changes can be made unless you enter that password. Well I hope I have enlightened some of you. I would like to say something though to mozila. Why would you but something like that in firefox that’s a Microsoft error so please take it out in firefox 3 I’ll bare with you for firefox 2 but please make firefox 3 better. I’ll try and have a step by step thing soon for those who want it.

Best Buy got caught

Well it looks like the best buy in store web site has been figured out and now it looks like after they where sued a few times they have now put a disclaimer on the in store site. Witch basically says that what is see on that site my be more than whats on the best buy web site. It also looks like Amazon.com has launched the public bata of there music serves it sounds good from what I was reading at engadet.com. Its DRM free as all these survis exseped I tunes I'm sure something will brake at apple and they will go DRM free. Windows Vista Home Basic

Well like I sed last week I got a new laptop that has windows vista home basic. When I say that I went to Ubuntu Linux but it really didn't work well on it so vista got me back. After I put vista back on the laptop I started to play with it and well There really wasn't much to say about it I mean it is basic it has a e-mail program but I ended up down loading the windows live sweet. It is good about keeping things out of your computer I think just about everything I did this week on it it asked me if I wanted to do it what I told it to do and after awhile it got annoying. But this is a good thing now you know nothing going in or out with out you knowing. Next was hardware and well that's were it sucked as I think everyone knows nothing I plugged in worked other than my thumb drives. Software I only tired one thing and well it was like an 8 year old typing program and it worked just as good as it dose on my other computers. In the end I like vista it works for what the normal home user uses a computer for.

Hey all here in New York its almost time to start school and I thought I should look at some tech things you need to go back to school. Well the first thing you will need for school is a flash drive and they keep getting cheaper and cheaper. The next thing I think kids need microsoft office but its so dame exspensive and well why should you pay for it when you can get it for free. Now you need a note book it dosnt have to be anything good just a fast one I would say something a rown like $300 and $600 and then take off windows put ubuntu you can get a free cd or download it and put on a cd at that point you can load it up and look and see if you like it before you install it over windows. Now I think to kick back have some fun go back to school stuff and I say get Itunes ik they have DRM but maybe soon they will stop that. Hey all there something I have to say I really have to say this it has to do wid bio shock people are complain about how bio shock was made for a wide screen and how it looks like it was cut or w/e to fit a screen that cant do wide screen like a crt screen or a small screen like a computer screen and it was a good thing but thanks to all the assholes out there that complain now there probly will never do this agen and it was a good thing. Hey all Last night was wwe summer slame and well I was not to happy wid it. The matches sucked the triple H return was grate and the diva match was good. But what was wid ray and that spry paint?
